Full Version: Rock Band Tournament

So I've noticed that there's no Rock Band thread yet...Well, me and my friend Marche have an idea/proposition.

Remember how last year's RB tournament was pretty lame cause not everyone got to go, it got cut short, and a lot of people weren't even allowed in? Well, we want to change that. We'd like to run the tournament for this year, or at least co-run it...or something of the sort. We'd like to enter, too, since we have a full band for RB (If any of you were at A&G 2008, we were on the winning band, Hammersmith).

So first off, we want to have at least as big of a setup as Colossalcon '08 had, but preferably an entire stage/main event room like A&G '08 had.
Ideally, this will be set up on a stage, and bands will be judged based on stage presence and score. If we do manage to get a full stage as opposed to just some setup in the game room, we'll base the scores much more on stage presence than score. Score will be a factor, though, and we'll definitely weight bands that play on expert as opposed to medium or hard. We don't want people going up on easy and just hamming it up. We want the full package!

What we're able to bring:
- RB 2 game
- Harddrive loaded with DLC songs
- ion drum kit
- official RB stage kit
- premium mic (the one with buttons on it)
- mic stand
- regular mic for use with the stage kit
- premium bass guitar
- extra guitars (likely guitar hero guitars, for the record)

What we'll need from the con:
- Xbox 360 with internet hookup (for signing into Xbox live to get our downloads)
- projector
- extra TV (not necessary, but would be extremely helpful if we want the band to be actually facing the crowd)
- preferably a main event, but at the very least just a stage and a separate room to hold this in
- along with that, at least an hour, but preferably 1.5-2 hours for this tourney.
- people to help us with setting up and sound syncing. Though we could get some of our friends to do this, too.

If we get the big stage, the projector will be set up behind the bands so the audience can watch the screen. Then the extra TV will be placed on stage for the band to watch while they play.

If any staffers can give us the OK on this, we'll start to add even more detailed information.

Anyone wanna reply? Honestly this has been up for a few days now, there are ~22 views, and no one's replied... The con is a month away! Why are the forums so damn slow!?!?
Anya
lol yes, this forum is slow. But, It should get around.

The Rock Band sounds awesome. But that sounds like a lot to do. You'd need to talk to Chibi Jae or some of the Admins. I think they're having a meeting this weekend about... stuff. lol. maybe PM them or IM them. But things are getting very busy, and the Con is only 5 weeks away.

OH! I also remember A and G! You guys were awesome.
DKong
It's a lot to do compared to just setting up a small tourney in the gaming room. But A&G, Acen, and a few other cons make their RB tournaments a big deal like this.

Since we're able to provide a lot of the equipment, the con itself won't have to do a lot. I'll have to contact the admins, though.
Anya
Good luck! It would be awesome to see Rock Band at the con.

Hammersmith huh? Where were you guys at AnG 09???? Complimentary Breakfast wanted revenge. Wouldn't it be an interesting match to see the AnG 08 champs against the AnG 09 champs? hmm.....

If you wanted to propose an event to the con, you should go to the "contact us" section on the website and inform the appropriate person. Do you think we troll the forum all day long? No, we're busy getting stuff done. Also, proposing an event a mere 1 month before the con is kind of short notice don't you think? Our schedule was basically finalized a few weeks ago. We do have some rock band stuff lined up so maybe we can work you into it. I'll have the events person contact you.

I emailed jae when I made this thread...Also, I said this doesn't have to be an event. But at the least, I'd like to have a stage for this if this does end up happening.

Yes, but given I looked through the forums and the website and was expecting to find some RB2 info a mere month before the con, and then seeing no info...I got a little concerned, so then me and my friend formulated this plan because we kinda thought nothing was going on RB wise due to there being absolutely no info about it anywhere.

Anyhow, we're offering to bring a ton of good quality instruments and a ton of songs. If you don't want all of that, your loss.

Side note...

At school. biggrin.gif. We live in Cleveland, so moving the con to Cinci in the middle of the school year kinda dashed any hopes we had of making it down there.

That sounds awesome. I may be able to convince my friend to bring some of his Rock Band stuff if it would help. He has all the instruments, drums with cymbals and the other bass pedal, and all the DLC. Plus the AC/DC track pack.

Probably unlikely. We have plenty of guitars, a premium bass, the ion drum kit (aka the one with the cymbals). Another bass pedal would probably be good in case ours breaks. We don't have all the DLC, but we have a lot.

Also, my friend Marche said that we got a tourney/event confirmed for Thursday at the con! I hope to see a lot of people there!

I don't have a great deal of experience in Rock Band, but could I still try once?
